Beautiful functional objects that don’t need to be replaced create a sense of connection and history in the people who live with them. The English vernacular furniture that is my inspiration evolved over several centuries and my interpretation of it continues to be distilled with time. In a world seemingly wedded to built in obsolescence where things have a shorter and shorter designed life span as time goes by, I contend that this way of working is actually both cost effective and environmentally friendly when compared to mass produced furniture over several decades. The issue of value verses price has been something I have thought about a good deal. My work is not often objectively unaffordable to many people when compared to what they will spend on other things but it is a commitment to a certain kind of choice.
